TIME/CNN Poll: NINE OUT OF TEN AMERICANS BELIEVE TERROR ATTACK IN U.S. SOMEWHAT OR VERY LIKELY IN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS

Over One Third (37%) Think Their Town or City Could Be A Target for Terrorists

New York – Nine out of ten (90%) of Americans polled believe it is somewhat or very likely an act of terrorism will occur somewhere in the U.S. during the next 12 months, according to a new TIME/CNN poll. At the same time, 37% think their town or city could be a target for terrorists.

Americans continue to think about what happened on September 11. While 26% said they think about Sept. 11 a few times a month, 32% said they think about it several times a week, and 29% said they think about it every day or nearly every day.

Feelings since September 11:

Ž 70% feel the need to spend more time with family members, up from 61% in a poll taken Nov. 7-8, 2001.

Ž 67% fell a greater focus or purpose in life, up from 55% in a poll taken Nov. 7-8, 2001.

Ž 28% feel depressed or down, and Ž 14% have trouble sleeping.

The TIME/CNN survey was conducted by Harris Interactive by telephone among 1,007 adult Americans May 22-23, 2002. The margin of error for the total sample is plus or minus 3.1%.
