BRITON ARRESTED OVER BODY PARTS MURDER
Wed Jun 05 2002 18:41:45 ET

New York detectives today arrested Richard Markham, the Briton suspected of dismembering a man then fleeing to the US, as he read a newspaper report about himself.

The 27-year-old lifted up his shirt to show a tattoo saying Made in England when police approached him in Central Park this morning and then said, "You've got me", New York police commissioner Raymond Kelly said. Markham was looking at a newspaper report about himself when he was arrested and made no attempt to resist the police officers.

The furniture dealer had spent his time in New York visiting the city's Natural History museum and a Spider-Man movie, Commissioner Kelly said.

He flew to the US after body parts belonging to unemployed carpenter Tristian Lovelock were found scattered around a housing estate in Basingstoke, Hampshire late last week.
