Under supereditor David Remnick, the NEW YORKER publishes few women, it is claimed, with at least one issue this year listing "no females in the Table of Contents" whatsoever! MORE The gender byline bias appears to be staggering for the progressively intellectual house. For 2002, the NEW YORKER has published 269 male bylines -- with only 83 penned by females: Well over a 3 to 1 ratio! One of N'YER's lady sensations, the controversial Jane Mayer, has reduced her workload in favor of personal domestic priorities, leaving powerplayers like Hendrik Hertzberg dominating the book. "This isn't penis envy, Drudge" confided one top female scribe. "It's text book discrimination."
