FORMER CLINTON AIDE SET TO SETTLE SCORES IN 'WARS'; MAG PUBLISHERS TAKE PASS ON BLUMENTHAL BOOK

**Exclusive**

Former Clinton White House aide Sidney Blumenthal is on the eve of unleashing his long awaited get-back shoot-back pay-back book -- a work being billed as "the last feature of the 20th Century."

In THE CLINTON WARS [Farrar Straus & Giroux], Blumenthal finally breaks his public silence on the Clinton years, which he witnessed firsthand, up close, in real-time.

The memoir may be the first inside account of the presidency of William Jefferson Clinton, but print outlets have taken a pass on running excerpts from WARS, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

NEWSWEEK, TIME, VANITY FAIR and others opted not to serialize the book, sources say.

Most surprisingly, THE NEW YORKER, where Blumenthal worked before officially joining the Clinton White House, has also declined.

Blumenthal is now planning a rollout at SALON.COM.

In the book -- which ranked #23,588 on AMAZON's hit parade Sunday night -- Blumenthal exposes his enemies and drops assorted secrets along the way.

NBC's Chris Matthews applied to be Clinton White House press secretary following the departure of Dee Dee Myers, Blumenthal claims.

Constraints of grand jury testimony appear to have limited what Blumenthal could reveal in his 800-page book, which arrives containing no exploding nuke bombs. Blumenthal testified under oath that he did not keep notes or a diary while serving President Clinton.

But now, in meticulous detail, Blumenthal authoritatively captures West Wing events that divided a nation.

Ken Starr is once again revisited, and examined, with fresh revelations.

A failed legal action against this space is documented.

A vigorous dissection of Blumenthal nemesis, editor/reporter Michael Kelly, who died early this month in Iraq, exposes the hardcore sport of politics: raw and personal, to the end.

[Blumenthal declined to pull back the book from the printers to edit the blistering Kelly pages.]

"THE CLINTON WARS is a lasting contribution to American history," notes the book's publisher.
