'MEET THE PRESS WITH TIM RUSSERT' DOMINATES SUNDAY MORNING BATTLE; DELIVERS 74% MORE VIEWERS THAN ABC'S STEPHANOPOULOS

According to Nielsen Media Research data, "Meet the Press with Tim Russert" easily dominated the Sunday morning public affairs competition in all categories for the second quarter 2003.

For the quarter, "Meet the Press" was the nation's most-watched political discussion program, averaging 4.011 million viewers.

In second place CBS's "Face the Nation" attracted 2.491 million viewers, and ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" followed with 2.300 million. FOX's "News Sunday" averaged 1.580 million.

The Russert-moderated broadcast has now placed first in total viewers for 23 consecutive quarters, which represents the program's best showing since at least 1980 (as far back as NBC News research records go).

In homes, "Meet the Press" was also No. 1, posting a 3.2 rating and a 10 share. CBS was second with a 2.0/6, ABC followed with a 1.8/6, and FOX was last with a 1.2/4. "Meet the Press" has now placed first in homes for 23 straight quarters.

Among the key demographics women, men and adults 25-54, "Meet the Press" was top-rated across the board. Specifically among younger viewers (adults 25-54), "Meet the Press" had a 1.3 rating, CBS placed second with a 0.8, ABC was third with a 0.7 and FOX was last, posting a 0.6. "Meet the Press" has now placed first among women 25-54 for 41 straight quarters (including two past ties with ABC), first among men for 28 quarters (one tie) and first among adults 25-54 for 36 consecutive quarters (four previous ties with ABC).
