Airborne Photo Shoot Causes Concern in Capital

The U.S. Air Force staged an airborne photo shoot involving two passenger planes escorted by two F-16 fighter jets at noontime above Washington Tuesday, causing some concern and speculation among tourists and office workers.

The photos will be used for recruitment, marketing and advertising purposes for the D.C. Air National Guard unit, officials tell the WASHINGTON POST. Air Force officials said they sought and received permission from the Secret Service, the Federal Aviation Administration, Reagan National Airport and a host of other government agencies and law-enforcement groups for the one-hour flyover that originated at Andrews Air Force Base.

The noontime flyaround today captured the attention of many in downtown Washington and was aired on CNN. Mary Lou Gordon, who like many was unaware of the Air Force's plans, looked out her office window and worried about seeing fighter jets.

"You'd think if they were going to do something like this, they would let people know," said Gordon, who works for a consulting firm.
