BROKAW BOUNCES BACK: 'NBC NIGHTLY NEWS' WINS THE MAY 2004 SWEEP PERIOD IN TOTAL VIEWERS AND HOMES

According to Nielsen Media Research data, "NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw" was the No. 1 network evening newscast during the May 2004 sweep period, attracting 8.94 million total viewers. ABC "World News Tonight" placed second with 8.82 million and CBS "Evening News" was third with 6.98 million. "Nightly News" has now placed first in total viewers for 10 straight sweeps and for 21 of the last 22 sweeps.

During the May sweep, "Nightly News" was also top-rated in homes, posting a 6.3 rating and a 14 share. ABC followed with a 6.2/13 and CBS had a 5.0/11. The NBC newscast has now placed first in homes for 10 consecutive sweeps.

Among the demographic adults 25-54, "Nightly News" had a 2.4 rating during the sweep period, ABC had a 2.5 and CBS a 1.9 rating.

For the week of May 24-30, "Nightly News" tied for first with ABC "World News Tonight," with both programs averaging 8.72 million total viewers and each posting a 6.1/13 in homes. CBS had 6.81 million viewers (4.9/11).
