GEN. TOMMY FRANKS BOOK DETAILS IRAQ WAR SURPRISES Sat Jul 31 2004 11:43:15 ET The Army general who commanded the Iraq war writes in a new book that intelligence failures produced "a nasty surprise" by failing to spot that Saddam Hussein dispatched trucks and buses filled with a large paramilitary force to wage an insurgents' campaign against advancing allied troops shortly after the conflict began. Sunday editions of the NEW YORK TIMES are planning to serve up first details of Gen. Tommy Franks, AMERICAN SOLDIER, newsroom sources tell DRUDGE. Gen. Franks also recounts that much of his certainty that his troops would face attacks by banned weapons -- in particular biological or chemical arms -- came from private conversations with King Abdullah II of Jordan and President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt.
