FLASH: NBC NIGHTLY NEWS WINS DEM. CONVENTION WEEK

Reporting live from Boston, the site of the Democratic National Convention, "NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw" was the most-watched network evening news program - winning all five nights -- during the week of July 26 - 30, 2004. According to Nielsen Media Research data, more Americans turned to "Nightly News" during the week of the Democratic National Convention than turned to ABC or CBS, with the NBC program attracting 8.079 million total viewers, 3% or +253,000 more viewers than ABC "World News Tonight's" 7.826 million, and 28% or +1,783,000 more than CBS "Evening News'" 6.296 million. Season-to-date, the NBC newscast now tops ABC by 7% and CBS by 31% among total viewers. "Nightly News" has now been the No. 1 network evening newscast for 69 of the last 75 weeks.

In homes, "Nightly News" was also No. 1 with a 5.8 rating and a 13 share. ABC followed with a 5.4/12 and CBS had a 4.5/10. During the convention week, "Nightly News" placed first in homes each night.

Among the demographic adults 25-54, "Nightly News" placed first with a 2.1 rating, ABC tied with NBC, and CBS had 1.7 rating. During the convention, NBC placed first among adults 25-54 for four out of the five nights. "Nightly News" has now placed first in adults 25-54 for 30 of the last 36 weeks (seven ties).

Season-to-date, "Nightly News" is outperforming ABC by 4% among adults 25-54 and by 10% among adults 18-49. In addition, since January 1, "Nightly News" continues to grow its advantage over ABC to 5% among adults 25-54 in viewers, compared to the fourth quarter 2003 when the NBC newscast had just a 3% advantage.
