MSNBC ANNOUNCES 'THE JESSE VENTURA SHOW'
Thu Feb 06 2003 12:22:07 ET

MSNBC is set to premiere "The Jesse Ventura Show," a new one-hour live primetime issues oriented talk show, it was announced today by Erik Sorenson, president, MSNBC. Hosted by the former Minnesota governor, the new program will feature topical, no-holds-barred discussion, opinion, debate and interviews on a variety of issues ranging from politics and events of the day to pop culture.

The show will include high profile guests as well as questions and participation from a live studio audience. Time period, premiere date, location and additional details regarding the show's specific format are forthcoming.

"MSNBC is about programming that is smart, lively, insightful and dominated by passionate but always diverse points of view," said Sorenson. "This show is an ideal fit within the context of MSNBC's overall programming strategy; it is one of several building blocks that will make up the foundation of the channel's primetime line-up. The electric energy, independent thinking and one-of-a-kind voice that Jesse Ventura brings to the cable news environment reflect MSNBC's profile and image perfectly."

"Jesse Ventura is passionate about politics and public policy and he is equally passionate about finding interesting and provocative ways to relate those issues to the television audience," added NBC News President Neal Shapiro. "His experience as a mayor and governor give him an insight others don't have."

"I've taken on a lot of challenges in my life and there are a few things that have always been true; I've always beaten the odds, I've always done it my own way and I've never worried about being politically correct." said Ventura. "I'm looking forward to doing a show that is from the gut, completely unpredictable and full of different opinions. You might not always agree with what you hear but I guarantee you'll never be bored."

Jesse Ventura most recently served as Governor of Minnesota. He also served as mayor of Brooklyn Park, MN from 1991 to 1995. Ventura spent six years in the United States Navy - four on active duty and two in the Reserves - and is a Vietnam veteran. While on active duty, he was a member of Underwater Demolition (SEAL) Team 12. He has also been a professional wrestler, actor and talk radio broadcaster.
