 Support The DrudgeReport; Visit Our Advertisers  Congress May Back 20-Cent Per Gallon Increase In Federal Gas Tax Thu Mar 13 2003 11:18:29 ET House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee leaders said Wednesday they may push for as much as a 20-cent-a-gallon increase in the federal gasoline tax over the next six years. That is more than double the proposed 8.1-cent increase included in a plan they circulated just last week, CONGRESSIONAL QUARTERLY reports. Chairman Don Young said "the tax increase will probably be included when the committee drafts a surface transportation bill later this spring.
