Anti-Bush protesters deface monuments in Brazil's capital
Thu Nov 03 2005 14:37:36 ET

Protesters defaced public monuments Thursday with slogans calling U.S. President George Bush a "killer" just days before his scheduled visit to the Brazilian capital.

Graffiti proclaiming "Get out, killer Bush" and "Yankees go home" was spraypainted on the Indian Museum and the JK Memorial, a monument to former President Juscelino Kubitschek who built Brasilia in the 1950s, the government news service Agencia Brasil said.

Officials barred photographers from taking pictures of the protests and quickly washed off the phrases.

Bush left Washington on Thursday for Argentina to attend the Summit of the Americas, where leaders of 34 nations in the Western Hemisphere will meet to discuss trade, labor, democracy, poverty and other issues.
