Subject: Important Message About Katie Couric

There are few people who have meant more to this company than Katie Couric. This morning, Katie announced on "Today" that after 15 distinguished years as co-anchor of the program, she will be leaving the show, and NBC, when her current contract expires at the end of May. It's a bittersweet day for me, as someone who has worked with her closely from her very first days at NBC. While I am thrilled for her and the exciting opportunities that she faces in the next chapter of her career, I am, of course, sorry to see her leave "Today" and NBC News. She is a consummate professional, and she will be missed not only by her colleagues at "Today" but also by all of us who have had the good fortune to work with her. Please join me, on behalf of all of us at NBC Universal, in thanking her, congratulating her and wishing her well. She is a remarkable woman with a remarkable legacy here.

As for the future of "Today," under the leadership of Steve Capus, Phil Griffin and Jim Bell, the program has never been in better shape. "Today" has never gone through such a transition from such a position of strength. We will be making an announcement about our plans soon.

A statement from Bob Wright about Katie's announcement follows.

STATEMENT FROM BOB WRIGHT, VICE CHAIRMAN AND EXECUTIVE OFFICER, GE, and CHAIRMAN AND CEO, NBC UNIVERSAL ON KATIE COURIC'S DEPARTURE FROM "TODAY"

Katie Couric has had an immensely positive impact both on this company and on the public at large. Her extraordinary work as a journalist and an advocate for critical health issues has made a difference in the lives of millions of viewers. I've been fortunate to call Katie a friend and a colleague, and I can't thank her enough for what she has brought to NBC.
