NBC 'MEET THE PRESS' #1 FOR FIVE YEARS
Mon Apr 24 2006 18:13:27 ET

According to Nielsen Media Research fast national data, "Meet the Press with Tim Russert" hit a ratings milestone yesterday, winning the Sunday morning public affairs competition for five years in a row, or for 260 weeks when all Sunday programs were at full coverage. "Meet the Press" has now won every week since July 30, 2000 (all shows at full coverage).

On Sunday, April 23, the Russert-moderated program averaged an impressive 4.020 million total viewers, 41% more (+1,170,000) than CBS "Face the Nation's" 2.850 million, a 46% advantage (+1,260,000) over ABC "This Week's" 2.760 million, and a 207% lead (+2,710,000) over FOX "News Sunday's" 1.310 million.

This represents the first time since the start of people meters (September 1987 and as far back as NBC News Research records go) that a Sunday morning public affairs program has been top rated for five years in a row.

In homes, "Meet the Press" was also No. 1 yesterday, posting a 3.0 rating and a 9 share. CBS followed with a 2.2/6, ABC had a 2.0/6, and FOX trailed with a 1.0/3. "Meet the Press" has now placed first in homes for 355 straight weeks when all Sunday shows were at full coverage.
